Kitchen Basics: 3 easy and healthy ways to cook an egg
Hardboiled: Place eggs in a sauce pan and cover with cool tap water (the water should be about an inch or two above the eggs). Place the pan over high heat, cover with a lid, and bring the water to a boil. Let the eggs boil for one minute and then remove from the burner and let sit (covered) for about 15 minutes (less time if you like your yolks to be less crumbly). Rinse with cold water after the eggs sit to stop the cooking process.
Soft-boiled: Bring a sauce pan of water to a rolling boil over medium/high heat. Place an egg into the water, wait 30 seconds, then cover the pot and remove it from the heat. Let your egg sit in the hot water for seven minutes. Rinse under cool water to stop the cooking process and serve.
Poached: Bring a saucepan filled 2/3 with water to a boil. Add a tablespoon of white vinegar. Crack a cold egg (straight from the fridge) into a ladle and slowly submerge the ladle into the boiling water (the goal here is to keep the egg somewhat contained in the ladle so the white doesn’t spread all over the place before it starts cooking). Let the egg sit in the boiling water for about 4 minutes and then remove it with a slotted spoon. Serve immediately.
